New places

Since moving into a new apartment, I’ve slowly begun to explore my surroundings. It isn’t easy, between working, attempting to cook dinner, exercising and still finding time to endlessly watch old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on my Kindle. But this past Saturday we took a walk through nearby Humboldt Park and in the light of day, it looks awfully pretty. I can’t wait to see it during the summer months.

Resolutions. Sort of.

I’m generally not the type to make New Year’s resolutions. New Year’s Eve is, after all, one of my least favorite holidays. But when I came across this list of resolutions specifically for 20-somethings from Thought Catalog, I couldn’t help but be intrigued. A few that especially caught my eye:

1. Know which candidate you’re going to vote for in the upcoming presidential election, and know why.
2. Find a way to save approximately 300 dollars and spend it on a flight to see a friend or family member who lives far away.
3. Spend less than or equal to the money you earn each month.
4. Call someone on the phone at least once a week, and speak to him or her for at least ten minutes.
5. Volunteer once over the next 90 days. You’ll feel really good about it, and probably end up volunteering again over the next 275.
6. Tell someone who you love that you love them on a more regular basis. To their face, not in a text.
7. Back up your entire online life onto an external hard drive, especially your photos.
8. Crap or get off the pot. This applies to whatever thing you’re not doing that you should just sack up and do already.

Hello, 2012.

For nearly the past two weeks I’ve become a waste of space. I’ve enjoyed lounging in my pajamas until noon every day and logging unnecessary and countless hours of bad TV. Thank you, Christmas vacation that I thought I would never have again after college. Tomorrow, however, means back to work and back to reality. I’m only sort of looking forward to it.

Goodbye, 2011.

This year has been a difficult one. Between moving back to Chicago, starting a new (first) job and then moving out on my own, 2011 has seen its year of stresses. I’ve re-learned over and over to adjust to my surroundings and my new apartment is finally starting to feel like a home.

While NYE is one of my least favorite holidays, the month of December has been consumed with boxes, moves, work events and an unwelcome sinus infection, and I’m actually sort of excited to welcome 2012. Cheers!

A few 2011 highlights:

The trip of a lifetime in Italy.

Hey, mayor.

Two beautiful pups.

The start of a wonderful friendship.

A rekindled love of biking, thanks to my dad. [Josh and I so close to finishing 43 miles, Dad miles ahead]

A long weekend with some pups from my days of dog walking. [I hope 2012 brings more of those!]

The chance to cover Latino Fashion Week.

A tribute to 63rd Street business owners.

A 24th birthday.

Another holiday season, come and gone.

And photos of our new apartment to come!

A hectic time of year

The past few weeks have been a complete blur thanks to a new apartment and all of the stress moving entails. I simply forgot how crazy it is to move. And you would think having done it four times while in college would prepare me, but it hasn’t. Especially when you have no furniture! Hellooo, Ikea. I’m excited to share photos once the place looks somewhat livable, but until then it would just be too embarrassing. Which means this year is a year without Christmas decorations. In the meantime, I’ll just admire this lovely little gem. Topping your tree with anything other than an angel just seems wrong.
