In which I get retweeted by Sophia Bush

My new favorite TV show of 2014? Chicago PD. It’s a spin-off of my other favorite show about this city I live in, Chicago Fire. I am obsessed. But the best part about it? One of the lead actresses is Sophia Bush. I’ve been a fan since my One Tree Hill watching days in high school, but she’s also a pretty cool person who supports many causes and charities, including pet adoption. She has her own rescue pup too. And yesterday when I shared one of OTAT’s adoptable pups, Poppy, she shared her Petfinder profile with all of her followers. Pretty dang cool.

Where Chick gets a new sweater and climbs on top of the coffee table

Chick and I received a surprise package in the mail over the weekend, and it turned out to be a brand new Snoopy sweater. My love of Snoopy and the rest of the Peanuts gang knows no bounds so to say I was excited is a bit of an understatement.

A few days later though, Chick had grown tired of the sweater and instead reached a new level of begging. She decided to crawl across our legs and onto the coffee table, where she promptly stole a mouthful of green beans. I was laughing too hard to do anything about it.

The worst

The worst is when you find a new dog sweater (thanks, Target) to add to your collection, but then you discover it’s sold out in your size and/or not currently available online. #firstworldproblems I have.

On resolutions and such

I normally don’t make resolutions for the new year. If I don’t successfully complete them, it just seems like I’m setting myself up for failure. Also, I think maybe the last time I made a resolution it was to eat less Taco Bell. This was most likely circa 15 years ago.

I still like Taco Bell, but times have changed. So this year, I’m opting to start blogging again. In 2013 I started a new job while continuing to work for my old employer during weeknights and weekends. I continued to volunteer with One Tail at a Time and joined their Board of Directors. Something had to give. So yesterday when I recycled my old planner and opened my new one (yes, I’m still someone who pencils tasks in a weekly planner and not into my iPhone), I decided my 2014 goal would be to write down and share my adventures here in this space once again.

Just over a week ago, I had to say goodbye to one of my oldest pals, the pup I grew up with. Frasier would have been 15 today, and while I know it was his time to go, it was a traumatic and heartbreaking experience that I still can’t stop thinking about. So dear pal, 2014 is for writing things down more. Because sometimes you have to say good-bye.

OTAT in OK

This past weekend, from Thursday to Saturday, I traveled down to Moore, Oklahoma with several other volunteers from One Tail at a Time, the dog rescue group where I act as the Volunteer Coordinator and sit on their Board of Directors.

We traveled down with a van full of donations from our awesome volunteers and spent a day volunteering with the Animal Resource Center and Second Chance Animal Sanctuary. And the best part? We pulled six dogs (four from Second Chance and two from the Central Oklahoma Humane Society). All of the pups where already at the shelters prior to the tornado, which freed up space for the many displaced pups from the storm.

This was definitely the trip of a lifetime and I am so happy that I went and was able to be a part of it. The devastation in Moore was unreal and I can’t imagine what it was like to live through that. On Friday, when the second storm rolled in, we were able to take shelter with some of the kindest and most welcoming people I have ever met. The generosity shown to us is like nothing I’ve ever experienced before.
