Weekend notes

Fortunately, this weekend was fairly relaxing. Friday night was supposed to be a night of pizza and a Godfather marathon (did you know some people have never seen this classic?!), but I somehow got roped into watching the NBA all evening. Saturday saw a lot of errands (the Jeep is CLEAN!) and I was finally able to see Girl with the Dragon Tattoo with my mom, which was so good. Sunday Frasier tried to accompany my dad and I to the Flying Saucer in Humboldt Park, but thanks to a 30 minute wait, Dunkin Donuts–an old stand-by–won out.

Happy end of Monday!

A little love

Have you ever thought about adopting a wild animal? It can be a fun way to show your support for endangered species (ahem, wolves). For Valentines’ Day Defenders of Wildlife is offering a promotion – save 20% while helping to:

-fight to pass national legislation to ban the barbaric shooting of wolves from planes
-work to save polar bears and penguins from trophy hunters and climate change
-protect sea turtles, sea otters and dolphins from oil spills and deadly fishing practices

Kind of a neat gift, if you’re looking for one come Tuesday.

A really long time

With Valentine’s Day less than a week away, I thought it would be fitting to share this sweet photo project I came across several days ago, (courtesy of the Rockstar Diaries) called Love Ever After by Lauren Fleishman. After discovering a letter her grandfather wrote to her grandmother during World War II, Fleishman decided to share the stories of couples who have been married over 50 years and are from New York and the surrounding area. Pretty sweet, indeed.

Plus my own fave couple, although I don’t that they were even married that long.

Flamenco

Last week I had the chance to write about the upcoming Chicago Flamenco Festival for the Lawndale News. I first wrote for them last fall when I covered Latino Fashion Week. The Flamenco Festival is in its 12th year, and is ridiculously awesome. It debuts this week and I can’t wait to attend. Read my story by clicking here, if you like.

Weekend in photos

A little Dunkin to start the weekend. I couldn’t resist the heart-shaped donuts, but couldn’t leave without my low-fat blueberry muffin too.

A little glimpse of the Sun-Times en route to Big Brothers, Big Sisters

Carry-out at The Wing Stop before the Badger game. I opted for the Costco pizza already waiting in the freezer at home.

This little guy was on the ceiling of Guthries Tavern, the perfect bar for people who don’t always like bars – they have stacks and stacks of board games. Throwback=awesome. And I won in Scattergories.

A few treats before the game. I mean commercials.

Not pictured: delicious homemade guacamole.
