New favorite

There are only a few television shows that I look forward to each week, and up until recently Parenthood was my ultimate favorite. Unfortunately, the season finale for that show came early this year. Fortunately, however, the show that has taken its place (for now at least) has been almost as entertaining.

Enter: The Voice.

I’ve never been into reality shows all that much (all that much is a relative term), especially singing competitions like American Idol, but The Voice has been a surprising addiction. With judges like Adam Levine, it’s hard not to be into it, but Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green have been equally hypnotizing. I could never in a million years imagine being a contestant on a show like this, which in my opinion, is what makes it so fun to watch.

What’s your current go-to show?

Sweet and simple

With yesterday being Mother’s Day, my mom and I decided to take my grandma out to lunch. Since she lives in a nursing home and doesn’t get out all that often, she was thrilled at the prospect of heading out for the day. The nice weather that FINALLY decided to grace the Chicagoland area was near perfect and it made for a lovely day.

While our outing was originally supposed to be a “just girls” event, my grandpa decided to join us last minute (aka, we forgot he always visits on Sundays … woops). Either way, while my mom drove and I pointed out where we were, my grandparents sat sweetly in the backseat, holding hands. Since my mom and I basically celebrated Mother’s Day for just the two of us on Saturday (manicures/pedicures/shopping/gift-giving/Grey’s Anatomy=bliss), this day was all about my gram.

Gift to Mom.

And she ate it up. Literally. After gifts and flowers, we headed out for Mexican, where she promptly became a member of the CPC — Clean Plate Club — as she wolfed down her tacos, rice and beans. The only downside to the meal: listening to my grandpa show off to the waitress by speaking only in Spanish (thus making me remember, why for the love of all that is good, did he and my grandma decide to NOT teach the rest of this powerful language?) and his incessant persistence that eating cow tongue and brain tacos is actually good.

They're actually smiling.

Once back at the nursing home, the three of us left my gram in a decidedly content state, which is always a good thing. Thank goodness for moms.

Blast from the past.

This one’s for the dogs…

Earlier this evening, I caught up with my friend Hanna who is currently living and teaching in Costa Rica. Unfortunately, she recently found out that her family dog–Jedi–who is back home in the States, has cancer.

I can’t imagine finding out that Frasier or Ginger has cancer, and even worse, being so far from home when your best furry friend is in so much pain. There’s nothing like coming home to a smiling, furry face who is so elated and full of joy just because you decided to walk through the door. If you don’t own a dog, well, you’re just missing out; this one for the dogs.

Keep Hanna and her pup in your thoughts. xx

On my mind…

Drinking orange juice straight out of the carton.
My mom would not approve.
So tired I can barely keep my eyes open.
But I must wait for my grandma’s clothes to finish drying.
Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday.
Weekends mean everything when you get up at 6am M-F.
Craving White Castle, a milkshake and a view of Midway Airport.
Wishing Frasier AND Ginger could sleep by my side.
Shoot.
I hate it when you think you’re done for the night and can start getting ready for bed…
…but then you remember you have to scan that really important document.
Random. But.
Will it ever feel like spring here?
HGTV you are the best.
Million Dollar Rooms, you are not.
What makes a yawn happen anyways?
Happy Cinco de mayo!
I should have celebrated with a taco.
Mmmm. A taco sounds delish right now.
Vegetable/cheese/noodle mixture, you were good, but not good taco good.
Plain orange juice or orange pineapple?
Orange pineapple. Every time.
Ding.
The laundry is doneee.
Finally.
This, however, means I need to go to the scary downstairs.
Shoot.
Saturday, are you here yet?

Snoozy

Do you ever feel so tired that you can barely keep your eyes open, but you’re determined to stay awake? Do you ever feel the need to watch that one last episode of House Hunters or feel like you need to check your email one last time, browse through Facebook once more, send that one last Tweet, read that one last page?

I do all of those things, and sometimes I procrastinate going to sleep because I’m afraid of the dark. True story: 23 going on 8. Nightlight? Check. Blinds open to let extra light in? Check. Stuffed bear? Check. Sleeping pup by my side? Check. Check. Check.

Whatever the case may be, getting enough sleep is so key. Otherwise you end up like this:
