Let there be light

I can’t tell you all how wonderful it was to wake up this morning feeling like I wasn’t getting up in the middle of the night. Taking Chick out for her morning walk at 630am no longer feels like I’m walking around at 10 at night. Thank you, Daylight Savings.

And on a fun side note: After I do my patriotic duty and go out and vote tomorrow morning, little Chick will be voting too! Thanks to AllRoverTown.com, Chick will vote by choosing a treat from either a red or blue bowl, and get entered for the chance to win some great raffle prizes. The pressure is on!

Have a wonderful weekend.

I couldn’t be happier that it’s finally Friday because this week felt especially tiring. All of the hurricane coverage was emotionally draining, and I truly feel for those affected by it. The images they’ve shown on the news all week have been devastating.

I’m thankful the hurricane hasn’t affected any of my friends or family, but it has affected hundreds, probably thousands, of pets. The ASPCA is working their magic, coordinating animal response efforts, setting up a hotline for owners who may have had to evacuate without their pet and getting some much-needed supplies out. What they need from everyone else though, is a little help. Even the smallest donation of $5 counts for something, and I would encourage you to donate what you can. Consider it a great start to your weekend.

Happy Howl-o-ween

Last night, with no trick-or-treaters to look forward to and no costume to speak of, it didn’t truly feeling like Halloween was on its way. Fast forward to 3am when little Chick tried her best to play some tricks on us sticking her nose in our faces and barking until we awoke. Then she squished her way under the covers until she settled in next to my feet. What a weird-o. And I thought Frasier’s 2am wake up calls to go outside and pee five times were bad. Punishment for her will be her pumpkin costume and a trip to Chicago Party Animals for Wicked Wagging Wednesday and lots of off-leash play.

{Resting after a long day.}

It was a chilly one this weekend, but I actually didn’t mind. It felt like fall: crisp, cool and refreshing with the windows open and the scent of fresh, clean air wafting in. I spent most of Saturday volunteering with the Court Case dogs at Animal Control, but on Sunday we did something fun and unexpected.

We had a professional photo shoot with little Chick’s foster mom, the wonderful Kelly Jo who took care of Chick after she was rescued from OTAT, but before we adopted her. It was cold for sure, but Humboldt Park was looking pretty and Chick, per usual, was quite the ham. I can’t wait to see how they turned out. After that, we took a long walk, trying to get Chick used to her new coat (!) and her costume for Wednesday, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!”

Side note: I debated for a long time which coat to buy for Chick, and ended up with this one because it was inexpensive, warm and had a collar to come up over her neck. After we purchased it though, a friend alerted me to Voyagers K9 Apparel, which makes breed specific outerwear. Next time!

Weekend in photos.

{my little lion!}

Over the weekend, I took my cousin’s dog Pudge to a Bulldog-only Halloween Costume Ball! He was thrilled to attend, not so thrilled to wear his lion’s mane. He loved meeting fellow bulldogs and was happy to try something new, or so I hoped. Dragging him around was quite different than Chicklet, though. I almost couldn’t lift him into the Jeep. Oy!
