Happy Howl-o-ween

Last night, with no trick-or-treaters to look forward to and no costume to speak of, it didn’t truly feeling like Halloween was on its way. Fast forward to 3am when little Chick tried her best to play some tricks on us sticking her nose in our faces and barking until we awoke. Then she squished her way under the covers until she settled in next to my feet. What a weird-o. And I thought Frasier’s 2am wake up calls to go outside and pee five times were bad. Punishment for her will be her pumpkin costume and a trip to Chicago Party Animals for Wicked Wagging Wednesday and lots of off-leash play.

Chick on the go

While sometimes it doesn’t seem this way, I often feel very lucky to live in a big city and still have a car. I’m lucky enough to have a designated parking spot included in the cost of rent. I’m not so lucky to have to drive to work every day in a city that has the highest gas prices in the nation.

But, in the end it’s worth it. I can come and go as I please without having to always rely on public transit and more often than not, little Chick gets to come along too (did you know she even has her own specialty car seat?).

Over this past weekend though, I found myself without a car. I knew I would have to ride the bus later on to volunteer so I walked over to the CTA station early in the morning to fill my card up. I thought about how nice it would be to take Chick along on the bus and maybe some El rides too. According to CTA rules, you actually can, if they’re in a secured carrier. Somehow, though, I don’t think Chick would like that.

Fortunately, you can take your pet in city taxis! Who knew? But the nice folks over at Two Pitties in the City, who own two pitbulls in Chicago, have done it before. Wow! Good to know if the Jeep ever decides to fail me.

Have a nice weekend.

As little Chick and I were getting off the elevator after our walk this morning, my keys fell down the elevator; they just fell straight through that little crack. You always wonder what you would do if that happened, I just stared at the crack in disbelief before rushing back to my apartment, only to realize I had to knock to be let in (that wasn’t embarrassing or anything). Fortunately, the technician was by within the hour and I got to see the pit of an elevator for the first time. Lesson learned: don’t juggle a dog’s leash while getting your keys out while stepping out of an elevator:)

Rain, rain go away.

Sometimes a rain shower in autumn can be the perfect excuse to curl up with your pup, a magazine and lounge on the couch without feeling guilty. But then your pup needs to go out and you don’t have a yard. So you’re forced to bundle up, put on rain boots and drag your pup outside one last time before bed. Walking a dog in the rain is cumbersome, annoying and not so enjoyable, but it’s just one of those things you have to do.

Anyone have any tips for keeping yourself and your pup warm and dry?
